I have almost finished Shelters of Stone. This is the first (although definitely not the last) time I have read these books. I absolutely loved them. Having lived with the characters for the last couple of months, I’m wondering – where do I go from here?!

I love the descriptions of how they live from day to day. Use of medicines and healing powers, making clothes, curing leather etc. (Although, not so keen on the spiritual aspects.)

I am looking for suggestions of books in a similar vein to these. Set in a similar time period.

Is there anything out there?

Thank you for your replies!

Hello! I was just wondering if anyone could reccomend any alterative children’s books such as Edward Gorey’s The Gashlycrumb Tinies. I’m looking for darker stories that just about fit in the children’s genre.

Many thanks!
I should have probably added that im looking at the illustrations more so than the text. i’m an illustrator re-illustrating some of the more gory moments from the grimm’s tales and am looking for image reference. thanks again!

I’m in the middle of creating a children’s book pitch (I’m writing and illustrating) to send to publishers. Someone told me that all Children’s picture books MUST be 32 pages. Is that something I should take into consideration while creating a children’s book dumy before I send to publishers? Thank you!

edit: I ment can it be shorter than 32 pages?

Does anyone know how I can publish my children’s story? It’s for my nephew. I can’t seem to find a way to go about it. I do not have an agent. I have never been professionaly published. Is there a list of publishers that publish children’s story books? It’s not a chapter book. And do I need to illistrate it? I want to publish adult works later, but this is what I would like to publish first.
Can anyone help, PLEASE?
Does anyone have a list of publishers? Much thanks.
I do have a writers group about to get in session. I’m not asking about critiquing, I asking about the final project, when everything is said and done, all editing, all critiquing, how do I publish my work?

My husband and I have given birth to a son, lately we’ve been thinking about expanding our family with adopting. I would like to adopt the harder-to-place older kids (maybe 3-15 years) and sibling groups. Idealy, I’d like two sisters around age seven or so. Any good books to get me started? I feel like a lot of books focus on adopting babies and dealing with infertility, neither of these are issues for our family.

I don’t remember the title, but I know tihs guy wrote (his brother may have illustrated) a few books starring himself and his brother as children. In the illustrations of himself and his brother, his brother has a moustache (as a kid). One specific book I remember had something to do with visiting either their uncle or grandpa’s house, and they played make believe.

If it helps I last read this book in 1991 or 1992.

I just thought of something. When Joanne Kathleen Rowling writes children’s books, will they be possibly published in the United States as well as across the globe or will they just be published around her home area, which is England?
please take this question seriously. Thank you.
also, I really like her as a writer. So please don’t say nasty stuff about her.

I’m looking for a children’s book on Jim Abbott for a 4th grader. Feel free to suggest any other good books about MLB players who deal/dealt with physical disabilities.

For a baby gift, myy book club always gives a children’s book to a member that has had a baby. The person that takes care of this for us is now having a baby. She has sooooooo many books. I know she has Mo Willems (a recently published author) and many, many classics. We have to find something really new. She’s having a boy.
The gift is for the baby.
